MTV Movie Awards 2012: Hunger Games and Bridesmaids Are the Favourites
While in other places - like Cannes - prestigious movie prizes have been awarded, and waiting for other outstanding events (in September the spotlights will be back on Venice, its movies and lions), the program of the cinema events, for June, includes the MTV Movie Awards, which are especially awaited by a young or very young audience. Although those who have a passion for essay movies might be disappointed by this pop and youthful event, still this is an important event a far as the world of movies is concerned, thus it is worthwhile to have a look at the possible winners of the festival.
The nominees, which were announced at the beginning of May, reveal the predominance of two movies: €Hunger Games€ and €The Bridesmaids€, two movies that did very well also at the box-office and that have been appreciated also by younger people, as it was easy to foresee. And now they are here, among the movies that have had the greatest number of nominations in the 2012 edition of the MTV Movie Awards. €Hunger Games€, the movie taken from the science-fiction novel by Suzanne Collins that has achieved a great success at the box-office in the States, has entered the lists of the awards for best movie, best male performance (Josh Hutcherson), best female performance (Jennifer Lawrence), best breakthrough performance (Liam Hemsworth), best cast, best on-screen transformation (Elizabeth Banks), best fight (Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Alexander Ludwig), best kiss (Jennifer Lawrence e Josh Hutcherson). Direct competitor of Hunger Games€, for many of the above-mentioned categories, will be the movie €The Bridesmaids€, which got nominations for best movie, best female performance (Kristen Wiig), best comedic performance (with the double nominee of Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig), best breakthrough performance (Melissa McCarthy), best cast, best gut-wrenching performance, best on-screen dirtbag.
Other movies that will compete for the most longed-for awards, in an event dedicated to a young audience, cannot but be films like €Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2€ (nominee for best movie and for other 6 awards) and the favourite vampire saga of all the teenagers' in throne of the first shakes of love, €The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn€ (in addition to the nomination for the best movie, it will also compete for the best kiss award - and it could not be otherwise). Considering the target of the event, the nomination for the most desirable prize of €The Help€, which will compete also for other three prizes, might be surprising. We will see if the movie will be able to stand out among other movies that are more clearly addressed to an audience of teenagers.
The MTV Movie Awards night, which will take place on the 3rd of June, will be presented by Russell Brand, who is already part of the MTV family having presented two editions of the Video Music Awards. Apart from the British presenter, actor - and much more - the stage of the Gibson Amphitheatre will host many other celebrities (like Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, Michael Fassbender, Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield, Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg). The live soundtrack of the event will be in the hands of The Fun, the breakthrough band of the year.
