Road to Hana Map Listing A Few Must Do Tour Stops
This shows a map of Maui and is posted on the famous and historic Kaupo store, located just below the Kaupo gap. The road to Hana is Hawaii's most famous road and is home to many interesting sites.
In this video, taken at the Kaupo Store, shows a road to hana map starting at the Kaupo gap and runs "backwards" towards Hana and then down the road towards Paia. Some of the noteable stops are mentioned like the largest driveable rainforest in the USA, a black sand beach, Seven pools and the village of Hana Maui.
This store is located on the highway leading from Hana to Ulapalakula, where the Tedeschi winery is located. The store is open on some days and at varying hours. So don't plan it to be open when you get there. Sometime's it is and sometimes it isn't.
The gap is a section of the wall of Haleakala's creater that collapsed and was reduced during previous volcanic activity. Many people believe it was from water and wind erosion but that is not correct. There is a trail that leads down from the summit, across the crater floor and then down thru the gap towards Kaupo.
The seven pools or seven sacred pools was the name given to the pools of the Oheo gulch below the bridge. Many people stop and go for a swim in the cold clear water or even jump of some of the cliffs into the water.
The town of Hana is simple yet beautiful. The Hana hotel dominates the downtown and most of the recreational amenties are there because of the hotels' owners. In the town you will find churches, a post office and the bank. The bank's hours are one of the shortest of any that you will find being open only 9 hours a week.
The forest, which once stretched across an even larger part of Maui is now reduced to the rainy, northern side of Haleakala. Many of the trees in this rainforest are non-native and have been deliberately introduced to prevent erosion.
