    • 1). Park the lawn mower on a level surface, remove the key from the ignition and set the parking brake. Allow the engine to cool for at least 1/2 hour.

    • 2). Raise the hood to the open position. Locate the wire harness to the headlights on the right side of the lawn mower and disconnect the headlights. Close the hood; locate the spring on each side of the mower frame, behind the bumper. Pull the spring off each side to release the hood. Open the hood on a 45-degree angle until the tabs on the hood pins line up with the slots in the hood-mounting bracket.

    • 3). Lift up and forward to remove the hood from the frame. Remove the two screws on top of the frame with the 10mm wrench and slide the heat shield off. Remove the three bolts on top of the muffler with a 10mm wrench and remove the heat shield.

    • 4). Follow the exhaust pipe to the engine block; remove the two bolts holding the pipe against the engine block with the Allen wrench. Slide off the muffler and gasket; install the new gasket and muffler.

    • 5). Follow instructions in reverse to complete re-installation.
