The 1968 Corvette is a classic make and model of the American Sports Car. The 1968 'Vette marked the beginning of the third generation, or "C3," Chevrolet Corvette. Technically still referred to as the Stingray (although the name did not appear on the car itself), the 1968 model came with more-than-typical options for sports cars of the time. - There were five different engine options for the '68 Chevy Corvette. The cheapest was the 327 cu. in., 350 horsepower engine, which was priced at $105. The 427 cu. in. 390hp engine cost $200. The 400hp engine was $306, the 435hp engine was $437 and the 430hp engine was $948. Chevrolet produced more 350hp engines than any other that year, followed by the 390hp engine.
- The 4-speed manual transmission was the most widely produced Corvette transmission. Both the 4-speed manual and the 4-speed manual close ratio were priced at $184. The heavy-duty version was considerably more at $263. If you didn't want a manual, Chevrolet only offered one transmission option for automatic, and that was the Turbo Hydra-matic automatic transmission which would have cost you $226.
- The Corvette came with many accessorizing possibilities: genuine leather upholstery, AM-FM stereo radio, an alarm system and even a speed-warning indicator. Chevrolet also offered white-stripe tires and red-stripe tires with bright red metal wheel covers. Other options included tinted glass, power steering, power brakes and air conditioning.
