Storage Ideas for CDs in an RV
- Taking your life on the road in a recreational vehicle (RV) means leaving behind some of the comforts of a traditional home. However, that does not mean it is necessary for you to leave your entire music collection behind. There are a variety of options you can use to take your compact discs (CDs) with you as you travel.
- One way to make your CD library more portable is to remove the discs from their jewel cases and transfer them to sleeves contained in a binder. These are available in multiple sizes, depending on how many discs you wish to carry with you.
If your library is not large, choose a small binder that will fit in your RV's glove compartment. For larger libraries, there are binders that hold dozens or even hundreds of discs. If you have a drawer or shelf large enough to hold one, you may choose one of those. However, several smaller cases may be the way to go if you only have small spaces, such as the area under the seat, a center console, or map pocket, in which to store your discs. - If you would rather use a case more secure than a notebook-style holder, or if you prefer to keep your CDs in their jewel cases, there are other options. You can purchase boxes and cases that are like suitcases specifically designed for CDs. These come in metal or plastic, and some have locks to keep your discs safe from theft. Some of these are drawers that can be stacked on a shelf, while others have lids like a tackle box and handles for easy carrying. They can be tucked between seats, above cabinets, or even strapped to a top cargo area.
- The space under the bed is an excellent place to store your music library. Plastic storage bins come in shapes and sizes designed specifically for utilizing this often-overlooked space. Use one of those bins to store CDs in their jewel cases, or the notebook-style binders full of discs if you have chosen to use those.
If you choose a bin that is weatherproof, you can store your CD library in one of those and keep it in the cargo space above the RV, or on a trailer if you are towing one. As an extra precaution, consider covering any bins stored outside the RV with a waterproof tarp so they will be protected from the elements in the event of cracks or leaks.
