Fun Activities to Help in Childhood Development
We heard this line for a thousand times and yet, it's true "we can only be a child once.
" As parents, we are the ones responsible for our child's orientation in life, the mother, especially.
Why is that? It's because the father is not always around because he concerns himself with the basic needs of the family; the food, clothing and shelter.
The emotional and psychological aspects are the mother's responsibilities since she is the one who is in-charge of the house, and everything that's in it; the household and the children.
Childhood activities depend on the age of the child.
Here are some guides on the kind of activities that suit the age of the child: For Preschoolers: · Color introduction - color is the first thing that the child notices, that's why the first lesson in numbers is through colors.
The mother can start by introducing just the primary colors to the child.
Using Inexpensive materials like boxes of vitamins and other small packages.
Wrap these materials with red, blue and yellow colors, dough using food coloring, colored straws and other materials that cost less but can make the child familiar with the colors.
After a few days, the child will give the sign that he wanted some more "lessons" and activities.
· Number orientation -the same materials are applicable for this activity.
Paste numbers in the sides of colored boxes.
Different kinds of boxes are very useful in teaching him with colors and shapes, which are the beginning of learning numbers.
· Sounds - before the child begins to read his first letters, it is the sounds that he learns first.
Make a sound and let him guess what kind of sounds you are making; reverse your roles after a while and let him make the sound while you "guess" it.
Grade Schoolers: · Chore assignment - the child can learn about responsibility at the early stage of his life.
Let him start with having his own plant.
Teach him how to grow a plant, his plant.
Children wanted to do what the mother is doing, like washing dishes or washing clothes, let him do it in a playful manner or give him an easier task.
· Games - teaching him the games like Scrabble (forming easy words), question and answer, counting things (example: counting red cars while going somewhere, and the likes) with some rewards if he accomplishes something.
· Doing personal things on his own - letting him take a bath, dress, prepare his bedding and other things that he can do for himself.
Assist him during the first days and slowly let him do it for himself.
It makes him feel proud being independent.
· Don't expect perfection - the child cannot carry out the activities perfectly, expect this.
Don't scold when you wanted to correct him, just encourage him to try another.
Be quick to appreciate and slow to scold or criticize.
These are just simple activities and teachings, but effective in child's orientation to his adult life.
Teaching him the right things, guiding him as a responsible child will make him one, until he grows older.
Enjoy his childhood, and let him enjoy his childhood too.
Patience and love are the keys for making this feat a success.
Make the beginning of his learning a great fun for both of you.
