Does Wine Make You Fat or Is It Healthy?

101 8
There are two conflicting views about wine. Some people say it's healthy and others say that it can make you fat and sick.

What is the truth? Does wine make you fat or is it healthy and should be part of your regular diet?

The truth is somewhere in between. It depends a lot on the type of wine.

Red wine, in particular, has many associated health benefits such as being rich in antioxidants, helping to prevent blood clots, and reducing the risk of being afflicted by certain heart disease. Red wine is often touted as being the reason why the French are generally thinner than many other nations even though their diet is not low in fat.

White wine is not considered to be so potent.

On the other hand, wine is an alcoholic beverage and alcohol can make you gain weight as it's rich in calories and also delays the processing of other calories, such as fat, in the liver. If you become a heavy drinker the health ramifications may be highly negative.

If you're going to be drinking alcohol, red wine is likely your best choice. However, just because it has some health benefits does not mean that it can be drunk without moderation. Red wine is still rich in calories and can contribute to weight gain.

In conclusion, there is no license to drink without judgement. You may become fatter because of it. However, red wine, in particular, is not without its benefits and so may be included, in moderation, in a healthy eating routine.
