1st Anniversary

• Travel where neither you nor your spouse have visited so you can explore a new location together. If you are an adventurous couple that enjoys outdoor activity, consider hiking in the Grand Canyon or visiting Yellowstone National Park. If you prefer to travel internationally, consider skiing in the French Alps. Beach worshiping couples should head to the Turks and Caicos islands for unspoiled white sand beaches with crystalline waters. If you are on an extra-tight budget because you are still paying your credit card bill from your wedding, you can likely find a nice hotel within two hours of your home. 5th Anniversary

• After five years, many couples are settled into an everyday routine that may include children. To escape from the monotony of work, school, kids and other business your life includes, consider heading to a remote location for rest and relaxation with a romantic touch. Maine is famous for its rugged coast dotted with lighthouses and bed and breakfasts. 10th Anniversary

• If you haven't taken a cruise with your mate by your 10th year, try a cruise for your special day. Cruises offer a multitude of options for food, entertainment and locations. If you prefer the sun and the beach, try a Western Caribbean itinerary that gives you a bit more time to relax at sea than an Eastern or Southern Caribbean cruise. If you are traveling in the summer, you may prefer cruising Alaska or the Mediterranean. 20th Anniversary

• Head to Paris for your 20th anniversary. Celebrating this milestone will be nothing less than spectacular while you stroll the Champs Élysées, visit the Eiffel Tower and cruise the River Seine in the "City of Love."
  
  Traveling to New Orleans is a less expensive option. You won't find Bourbon Street especially romantic, but strolling the other areas of the French Quarter, enjoying local music on Frenchman Street and eating beignets at the Cafe du Monde can give budget travelers the feeling that they are in another country.
  
  

30th Anniversary & Beyond

• Once you reach an incredible 30 years as a couple, go where no man has gone before--or at least where you have not. Consider exotic and distant getaways that may have not been in your budget in your early years. Go to a resort with over-water huts in Fiji or another destination in the South Pacific. Tour the island continent of Australia, stay in India or take an escorted safari in South Africa. Anniversary getaways in your later years also serve as a good time to revisit any locations you may have enjoyed while cruising. You could spend a week or two enjoying the pink sand beaches of Bermuda or soaking up the history in European port cities such as Barcelona, Athens or Venice.
