Organic Bug Prevention on Apple Trees
- Rid your tree of any affected fruit or dead branches. Look for bore holds and wilting fruit and branches with uniformly withered or brown dry leaves. Cut away these areas with pruning shears and dispose of them in garbage bags.
Mix together 2 tablespoons cayenne pepper, 1 tablespoon dish soap and 1 tablespoon lime sulfur with enough water to fill your hose-end garden sprayer.
Shake the mixture vigorously and spray your tree thoroughly to get rid of insects. The soap and lime sulfur will smother any insects that the cayenne pepper doesn't kill. Spray your tree once every other day until you see no more signs of insects. - Mix 3 tablespoons baking soda with 1 pint of water and fill your hose-end garden sprayer. Spray your tree from the bottom up, making sure to aim up through the branches. This will rid your tree of fungi and mildew. Continue spraying until the fungus or mildew disappears.
