Video games are so much more fun than when we were sitting in front of the television trying to turnover Pacman. Active and fun games include sports, music and dancing along with the competition. These games were made to be included in a party! Here are some tips to have your own video game party:

• Serve party food that can be eaten while watching the games.
• If the games are active, offer plenty of water and sports drinks.
• Set up more than one game area, each with a game hooked up to a television so that more guests can play at the same time and you can offer a variety of games.
• Decorate based on the main video party game you will be playing. Having a Dance competition? Hang a Disco Ball. Offering a bowling tournament? put a bowling pin on the table for a center piece.
• Start off with the room being cooler than normal, it will warm up as the party goes on and you don't want to overheat anyone.
• Turn to have 4 hand held controllers for each game console. Borrow from the guests if needed, but try to set them up beforehand. Be sure that each controller is marked with the owners name - you can do this with masking tape. Or you can ask guests to bring their own controller.
• Offer prizes for different levels of the game and a grand prize for the overall winner. Different size chocolate bars wrapped in ribbon work well. Trophies are a great idea with honorable mention certificates for those in 2nd and 3rd place.

• Purchase a cake that looks like a controller, or has a screen shot of one of the games you are playing.
• Have little side games going where guests count how many times someone gets a strike on the bowling game or take a pool and see if guests can guess how high someone's score is going to be.
• Add a speaker set to the television and game console, especially if you will be playing music or dance games.
