For the longest time, gout arthritis has been known to plague millions of Americans alone.

What's more alarming is that the number seems to grow bigger each year.
That is quite a number right? But why is it that rampant? Fist you have to understand that gout is caused mainly by high levels of uric acid in the body.
This may either be caused by eating too much food rich in uric acid or having kidneys which cannot process the acid well.
And when the uric acid stays in the blood stream, it finds its way in between joints and stays there in the form of crystals.
During the early stages, you are not bound to feel the presence of crystals in your body.
But as they become bigger they will eventually cause you some serious pain, usually starting at the big toe.
Of course it does not stop there, in worse cases it may even spread on other parts such as insteps, heels, ankles, knees and even hips.
And when gout attacks happen, it can temporarily impair the patient, preventing them to go to work or function in the society.
Going back to the first question, the emergence of gout is said to be attributed to an unhealthy lifestyle and a bad diet.
Due to the current eating trend, most Americans do not get to eat a balanced diet anymore.
What they get instead are highly acidic foods such as meat.
Alcohol also contributes to upsetting the internal balance of the body, eventually leading not only to gout but other diseases as well.
And since gout is primarily linked to a bad diet, the remedy or primary solution in preventing attacks is engaging in a gout diet.
What is a gout diet? Well generally you just have to say no to acidic food.
Apart from limiting if not eliminating meat in your diet, you should also avoid the following: - Internal organs of animals including liver, kidneys and brains because gout diet is all about limiting your intake of protein to an acceptable level - Seafood specifically anchovies, sardines and shellfish - Vegetables like asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli, bean sprouts, spinach and mushrooms - Dry beans like kidney beans, peas and lentils - Alcoholic and diuretic drinks like beer, coffee, tea and soda respectively - Taking diuretic medicines like aspirin - Food high in sugar like jams, jellies, candy and syrup As you say goodbye to the food items listed above, you can say hello to "non - acidic" fruits and vegetables and start drinking a lot of alkaline water to complete your gout diet.
Why is alkaline water important in gout diet? This is because a lot studies have proven that alkali salts can dissolve uric acid crystals the way no other compound can.
So if you have sufficient amounts of alkali in your body, gout will eventually disappear on its own.
And as long as you couple this with a balanced diet a regular exercise routine, you can eventually kick gout right out of your life.
