How to Replace the ID From a Stolen Wallet
- 1). Contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Schedule the first available appointment.
- 2). Prepare for your DMV appointment. Gather a recent bill showing your current address, your passport, if you have one, and a certified copy of your birth certificate. Bring reading material.
- 3). Give your name to the receptionist. Inform her you have an appointment. Receive your number and take a seat.
- 4). Listen for your number over the loudspeaker. Go to the designated counter window. Inform the clerk you require a replacement driver's license or identification card.
- 5). Hand the clerk your documents to prove your identity. Wait for her to type up a temporary license and hand it to you. Pay the fee ($11 in New Jersey, for example) by check, money order or credit card. Proceed to the photograph window area.
- 6). Hand your documents to the photographer clerk. Stand on the red line. Smile as he snaps your picture. Pick up your temporary license.
