How to Become a Certified Fraud Examiner
- 1). Apply for the CFE exam and pay the CFE Exam fee of $250 for candidates who studied for the CFE exam on their own, and $150 for candidates who purchased the ACFE Prep Course.
Provide proof of your educational and professional qualification to the ACFE. You must possess an accredited bachelor's degree as well as a minimum of two years of direct or indirect fraud-related experience. You also must be an associate member of the ACFE and be of good moral character. Also, you must be willing to comply with the ACFE Code of Professional Ethics as well as ACFE bylaws.
All supporting documents must be sent together in one packet to the following address:
Association of Certified Fraud Examiners
Attn: Certification Department
716 West Avenue
Austin, TX 78701 USA
Fax: (512) 478-9297 - 2). Wait for about a month or less to hear back from the ACFE on whether you have been approved to sit for the ACFE exam. If you have been approved, you will receive a self-administered, timed exam typically in the form of a CD along with a passcode that will allow you to unlock the exam and take it.
- 3). Take the CFE exam and email a copy of your exam file from the exam CD to the ACFE Certification Department. You will hear from the Certification Department within a few business days.
If you pass the CFE exam, and meet all certification requirements as set forth in the ACFE bylaws, the Board of Regents and the Certification Department will approve your application for the CFE designation. It is at this point that you can add the CFE designation after your name.
Within a few weeks, you will receive a certificate (similar in style to a university degree) from the ACFE.
