Five Easy Winter Skin Care Tips

Is the cold winter weather making your skin dull, dry, and chapped? Freezing temperatures do not have to make you look like an ice wraith.
Here are five simple but useful tips to keep skin healthy and radiant during the nippy winter months: Tip #1: Be Gentle Winter takes its toll on the skin.
Cold outdoor weather numbs and dulls the skin while dry indoor heating makes it dry and flaky.
The sharp contrast between the cold outside and the dry heating indoors also makes skin stressed, sensitive and irritated.
Once the mercury starts to drop, switch your strong alcohol-based cleansers and toners with gentler moisturizing soaps that are easier on the skin.
Refrain from scrubbing your face vigorously with each washing and stay away from hot showers - warm soaks in oil-infused baths will do.
Tip #2: Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize Everyone knows that winter makes skin dry and flaky.
To keep skin soft and supple, slather on a moisturizer that locks in water and protects the skin from drying.
Look for ingredients like petroleum jelly, shea butter, silicons, primrose oil, almond oil or hyaluronic acid.
If you have oily skin, pick light moisturizing creams over the heavy ones.
Dry skin types will have to stock up on thick creams.
For best results, put on moisturizer at least 30 minutes before heading out the door.
This gives your skin enough time to absorb the moisturizer so that it does not freeze over once you go outside.
Tip #3: Get Sun Protected Because it is cold, most people think that they don't need sun protection during winter.
Truth is, snow reflects the sun's rays more intensely than sand, which in turn exposes you to more UV radiation.
To protect yourself from skin damage, don't forget to put on some sunscreen before leaving the house.
Get one with at least SPF15 and extra moisturizing ingredients to counteract winter dryness, too.
Tip#4: Keep Moving! Colder temperatures make for poor blood circulation on your skin, which means that it doesn't get as much nutrients and oxygen as it needs.
This leads to dull, pale, lifeless-looking skin.
Keeping active with daily exercise makes your skin literally glowing as it gets much-needed nutrients.
The feel-good hormones you get from exercise also keeps stress levels down, which in turn helps keep you beautifully blemish-free too.
Tip #5: Pamper Yourself To give your skin the extra boost it needs during winter, treat yourself to a weekly facial.
You can book yourself a full facial spa at the salon or whip up your own facial mask from the comforts of home.
Make sure to have moisturizing oils or creams as well as exfoliating scrubs in your mask.
Don't forget to massage the face to boost circulation, too.
If you have acne, winter is the best time to try out a natural acne treatment that is not too harsh and drying on your skin.
You can choose between herbal remedies, home remedies, and homeopathic treatments that fight acne.
Because these are all natural, they cause less stress on the skin and help maintain skin balance and health.
