National Forest Campgrounds in North Georgia
- Not much beats the beautiful mountain views and cool lake waters of the North Georgia mountains. After a day of hiking, boating or fishing, you can sit back around a campfire and enjoy the cool evening breeze with friends and family. You have numerous options when choosing a national forest campground in the North Georgia mountains.
- Located on Lake Blue Ridge, the Morganton Point Recreation Area provides plenty of swimming, hiking, boating and fishing opportunities. The campground, in the Chattahoochee National Forest, has 37 camping sites and 13 picnic tables and a beach area on the lake shore with a paved boat ramp. You can stroll through two easy trails, one that follows the shoreline, and you have nearby access to the Appalachian Trail. The quaint towns of Morganton and Blue Ridge, with a variety of shopping and attractions, are within 15 minutes. Alcohol is not permitted, and reservations need to be made at least two days in advance. The campground is open from mid-April until late October.

706-455-0342 - The 19-acre Lake Conasauga is the highest in Georgia at 3,150 feet. You can choose from 35 camp sites that have grills, fire rings, tent pads and picnic tables. Because of the gravel roads leading to the lake, not many RVers venture to the campground. You can enjoy boating, hiking, swimming and fishing. Three trails less than two miles long loop through the recreation area. The lake, which was dammed in 1940 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, has plenty of bream, bass and trout, but only electric motors are allowed. The closest town is Chatsworth, about 25 miles away, so it is a rather isolated campground, located next to the Cohutta Wilderness, the largest wilderness area in the state. It's open for camping from April 15 to Oct. 31.
