Street Fighter Moves - Do You Know the 3 Reasons Why a Groin Kick Should Be a FOLLOW-UP Strike?
It was to the great surprise of a martial artist who regularly reads my column that I did NOT include a groin strike or kick to the testicles as a recommended or preferred first strike.
He was dismayed as to find out why not.
I will show for you here that although a groin kick or strike can be debilitating if the shot is well timed and made, but as for a first strike, a groin kick is not the best move.
The 3 Reasons Why A Groin Kick Should Always Be A SECOND or Follow-Up Strike Reason # 1 - A Front Snap Kick or A Front Thrust Kick To The Groin As A First Strike Are Readily Telegraphed and Are Easily Intercepted - I admit that there are some rare and well-trained individuals who could probably deliver a rapid and lightning fast preemptive front kick to the groin before the fight fully starts, but this I must say is more of the exception than the rule.
Front kicks are telegraphed by the tensing up of the face and the slight movement of the hips.
Reason # 2 - Men Are Unconsciously And Instinctively Protective of Their Groin Area - Since very young adolescence until adult, we as men learn to protect "the family jewels".
No man wants to get hit in the "ding-a-ling".
Always on some level of our consciousness, we are always aware where our groin is, and that it is there where we definitely do NOT want to get hit.
Reason # 3 - If You First Strike The Eyes or The Throat, His Hands Will Go Up To Cover - Now The Groin Is EXPOSED To Kick And Strike As You Please - Once you make the proper first strike: to the eyes, the bridge of the nose or the throat, now you are able to kick the groin without any stress of missing, as his hands will go up, and leave everything wide open - to sound the gong and end that fight very, very fast.
