How to Get Crystal Clear Pool Water
- 1). Run the pool pump for 24 hours straight, then check the pool water. The pool water runs through the pool filter and traps dirt and debris that may cloud up the water. Running the pump constantly gives the filter adequate time to trap all dirt and scum in the pool.
- 2). Check the pool filter screen for rips or clogs. Clean the filter by taking it out and spraying with a hose. Replace the filter if it is damaged.
- 3). Pour shock treatment into the pool. Shocking the pool kills any bacteria or algae growth that may grow in the pool. The amount needed will vary depending on the size of the pool.
- 4). Test the pool water with a pool testing strip by dipping it into the pool water and shaking it off. Wait 30 seconds and compare the colored blocks on the test strip to the colors on the test strip bottle. This shows if your pool is low on any chemicals, such as chlorine.
- 5). Add bleach or bromine granules to the pool if needed. The bleach or bromine sanitizes the pool, making it safe to swim in.
- 6). Add pH increaser or decreaser, depending on if the test strip shows your pH balance is high or low. A pH balance below 7.2 is low and over 7.8 is high. Levels of pH need to balance for water to be clear.
- 7). Add a scale reducer to the pool water if you live in an area with hard water. Hard water creates calcium deposits and can result in cloudy water. The scale reducer dissolves the deposits resulting in clearer-looking pool water.
- 8). Take a sample of the pool water to a pool professional if you cannot get rid of the cloudy water after running the pool filter or adding chemicals to your pool. A pool professional will test your sample and tell you what you need to keep your water crystal clear.
