    • 1). Put the live rock inside a 30-gallon plastic garbage can. If you wish, you can add bottom drains to the can to speed draining during water changes.

    • 2). Cover the rock with mixed saltwater, specific gravity of 1.021-1.025. Be sure that the rock is covered completely or the curing will not work.

    • 3). Use the heater to ensure a water temperature of around 80 degrees Fahrenheit to speed the die off.

    • 4). Change all of the water at least twice weekly.

    • 5). Scrub all of the live rock with a nylon bristle brush or toothbrush during the water changes to remove any dead material or white film that may have occurred.

    • 6). Test the water conditions on a daily basis. When the water conditions are stable with an ammonia and nitrate level of zero, the live rock is cured and ready to be introduced into your live aquarium.
