A Carpet Is for Life

How do you treat your carpet? Do you leave it lying disregarded on your floor while muddy boots trample swathes of mud across it? Or do you cherish it like a delicate flower, making visitors embrace it with their stockinged feet and protecting it from all possible contact with food or drink? Whilst there are those who embrace one or other extreme; in truth the majority of us hover somewhere in the middle.
So we take extra care of a new carpet and as it becomes a more familiar part of our lives we take less and less notice of odd spills and scuffs.
Often this state of affairs continues until the day when we move a piece of furniture and realise that the exposed carpet beneath bears little resemblance to that covering the rest of the room.
So perhaps the question should be not how do you treat your carpet but how should you treat your carpet.
Treat a carpet well and it can happily look after you for decades.
Treat it badly and your carpet may need to be changed more often than your wallpaper.
Carpet manufacturers recommend that, depending on wear, carpets should be deep cleaned every six to twelve months.
Deep cleaning, particularly steam cleaning brings multiple benefits not only to the carpet but also to the home.
One of the main benefits of steam cleaning a carpet is that the steam loosens and lifts deep down dirt and food particles.
If left untouched, over time these would start to rot, destroying the fabric of the carpet and unleashing an unpleasant odour into the atmosphere.
The second benefit of carpet steam cleaning is that the steam kills dust mites which live in the carpet fibres and which can in some cases cause allergic reactions such as asthma.
Homes with pets also benefit from carpet steam cleaning as the steam will destroy flea eggs and larvae, helping to keep the home free from flea infestations.
Finally, the act of steam cleaning will lift and fluff up the carpet fibres, helping to prolong the life of the carpet.
This is particularly important in rooms which see a lot of footfall as the more that fibres are flattened the quicker the carpet may start to decay.
Steam cleaning is perfect for most carpet types including carpet tiles so can be equally effective in the office as in the home.
So when you next take a look at your carpet and see that it is starting to look a little grubby or worn don't think of redecorating, call for a professional steam carpet cleaner.
It's a lot cheaper than a new carpet and will help you to happily share your home with your carpet for some time to come.
