How to Use Vermiculite When Planting
- 1). Mix vermiculite with the potting soil. For plants that are being planted pots, mix the vermiculite with the potting soil and fill the pot up at least 6 inches from the bottom of the pot. Make sure you have large enough pot for the plant's roots to expand and grow. Use approximately 1 cup of vermiculite for every 6 cups of potting soil.
- 2). Dig a hole in the ground where the plant will be placed. Mix vermiculite into the soil you removed. Place the plant inside the hole fill in the mixed soil around the roots of the plant.
- 3). Water the plants. The vermiculite will be more effective if you immediately water the plant after it is in place.
- 4). Spread vermiculite on top of sandy soil, then use a cultivator to mix it into the soil.
