Why Has Obesity Become Such an Issue?

Who wants to be fat? Well, I guess no one wants to be fat but the truth is that obesity has become an epidemic around the world, especially in women and children.
Why has obesity become such an issue? We are constantly bombarded with TV and magazine articles about food, mainly junk food.
Most of us live sedentary lives, opting to drive or take a taxi rather than walking or cycling.
Children spend their time watching TV, surfing the internet or playing computer games, when it would be far healthier if they were to be running around playing or being involved in sporting activities.
Above all, people are getting fatter because of what we eat and the way we eat.
We live in a fast-paced world and often don't make time or cant be bothered to cook for ourselves.
So we grab fast foods from corner stores, fast food joints, and restaurants.
These foods are likely to be processed, refined and laced with chemicals to preserve their shelf life.
Obesity is a serious problem certainly within the developed nations, with experts suggesting that around 70% of the adult US population are either obese or overweight.
Unfortunately this now seems to be an accepted and normal way to live by many people..
This is a serious issue and something that needs to change.
Being obese or excessively overweight may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis and even cancer.
The plain and simple fact is that we need to change the way we take care of ourselves.
We need to push ourselves to take more exercise, maintain self control in the food choices we make and make the effort to prepare our own foods with healthy ingredients.
If you do this you wont have to worry about being obese.
We have to act responsibly.
