How to Care for Royal Doulton Figurines
Cleaning the Figurine
If you like to display the figurines in your collection, you'll want to keep them nice and clean. Generally speaking, a light dusting every so often with a soft microfiber cloth should keep it free from any foreign particles. However, if it is necessary to clean it a little more thoroughly, the same soft cloth dampened with water should do the trick.
If soap is necessary, use a very mild detergent with very little pressure. Keep water out of the hole, and allow it to dry naturally after you've washed it down. Always keep Royal Doulton figurines out of direct sunlight and away from extreme temperatures of any kind. If you have trouble getting to the really intricate details, try using a very soft make up brush instead of a cloth.
If It's Damaged
Naturally, your goal is to never damage your Royal Doulton figurines, but if they do become damaged there is a protocol to follow. It is important not to overreact and gather everything up right away. Take a moment and assess the situation, first. This may seem silly for a small figurine, but they are quite valuable and some really are irreplaceable.
It is important that all the pieces are retrieved if you want to have a chance of it being repaired. If just one part broke off cleanly, pick it up and carry on. If there are several smaller pieces, take your time and try to get every single piece, no matter how small. It may be frustrating, but it will be worth it in the end.
Safe Storage
If you want to store your Royal Doulton figurine for safe keeping, or if you need to store the damaged pieces for transport to be repaired, there are a few steps to follow. Whether you are storing a damaged or intact figurine, wrap it carefully in bubble wrap so that every part is covered and protected. For damaged products, wrap each piece in its own bubble wrap so none of the pieces are actually touching.
Once you feel it is adequately protected, Place the figurine or sections of figurine in a box, cardboard is fine, that is packed with more bubble wrap or some sort of cotton or foam that won't let it move and will keep it safe and protected. Take a damaged figurine to be repaired personally if possible, and if storing it at home, keep the box well out of harm's way so you never have to worry about it being damaged.
