How to Refill DCP-115C Printer Cartridges
- 1). Disconnect the used cartridge from the printer and confirm what color of ink it holds. Brother sells individual ink cartridges for each color type, as opposed to some other printer companies that combine the three colors of ink (cyan, yellow and magenta) into a single cartridge. This is beneficial when refilling, because it prevents confusion over which color of ink has run out.
- 2). Place the cartridge on a paper towel in case there are any spills, with the wording on the label facing right-side up. The side to the right of that wording should consist of clear or translucent plastic. That's the location of the inkwell, and where you will need to make a hole.
- 3). Use the hole puncher provided in any standard ink refill kit to punch a hole in the side of the cartridge. The hole should be 1/4 inch below the top of the cartridge (the part with the black tab) and as centered as you can make it. If your ink refill kit doesn't have a hole punch for some reason, use a drill with a very small bit (3mm or so). You only need the hole to be big enough to get a syringe needle through.
- 4). Fill the syringe from the ink refill kit with 20ml of ink. Some ink refill kits use a needle connected to an ink bottle; that shouldn't change any aspect of the operation.
- 5). Insert the syringe into the hole you have made and slowly depress the plunger. Monitor the levels of ink in the inkwell and stop when it is just below the hole.
- 6). Remove the syringe and empty the excess ink back into its bottle. Patch up the hole in the cartridge with a small piece of aluminum tape to keep it from leaking.
- 7). Replace the cartridge in the printer and run a standard cleaning cycle, then begin printing normally. In some cases, you may need to run two or three cleaning cycles before it will print.
