Spray

• Many companies, like Frontline and BioSpot, make a flea treatment spray. Sprays are recommended for severe infestation. Sprays typically take about 24 hours to cure the infestation.
  
  

Shampoo

• Flea shampoos are common over-the-counter flea treatments. Simply wash the dog with the flea shampoo to kill and remove the fleas.
  
  

Comb

• For less advanced infestations, try a flea comb. The comb allows you to groom your dog while killing fleas at the same time.
  
  

Powder

• To destroy fleas that have made their way to your carpet or couch, purchase an over-the-counter flea powder. You can apply these powders to fabric and carpets, then wash thoroughly with soap and water. These powders kill fleas and prevent future re-infestation for a certain time period.
  
  

Fogger

• For a severe infestation that has permeated your home, a fogger may be the best bet. Foggers, which are sprayed around the house and can get into nooks and crannies, can rid your home of serious flea infestations and prevent them fleas from returning for months.
  
  

Preventatives

• Prevent flea infestations by using one of the many over-the-counter preventatives, including K9 Advantix, Frontline and Bio Spot. Preventatives can be applied as a topical solution, orally or on a collar.
