Why Do You Have An Achey Back?

A lot of folks have back or neck pain from time to time.
They may also have chronic and nagging back or neck pain that lingers.
It is only natural when we experience pain to try and figure out exactly what we did that might have caused our misery.
Usually, we're just not sure.
There is always a reason though.
It can certainly be from the smallest and most innocent incidents.
Things like going down steps, turning to go reverse in the car, climbing in and out of cars, picking up a penny, or even sleeping on your stomach.
Beginning to help you may be as simple as giving tips on posture and certain lifting techniques.
Whatever the cause, no pain-killing drugs are going to cure it.
It may soften the pain you are feeling but it will not cure it.
I'm a firm believer in pain-killers, muscle relaxers, and anti-inflammatories but it must be understood that they do no more than throw a thin blanket over the symptom but do NOTHING to address the source of your pain.
Consider this: we have 24 moving vertebrae.
The normal person will have 5-7 areas fixated.
Each area is made up of 2 vertebra "jammed" on each other.
So that means that most people have between 10 and 14 vertebrae not moving freely.
Considering that we only have 24 to begin with, that leaves the normal person with only 10-14 vertebra that are moving well and are responsible for ALL of the lifting, bending, twisting, running, extending, and playing! This makes it easy to see how this sets your back and neck up for easier sprain/strain, overall aching, increased stress, and less sleep, and more incidents of back and neck pain.
This is a big reason that chiropractors are interested in patients treating chiropractic as a preventative measure rather than, "I'm in pain.
Get me out of pain NOW!" We can address acute pain, sometimes very quickly, but chiropractic is much more effective if it is utilized on some sort of regular basis and used as a preventative measure.
With a more regular schedule, all issues are usually addressed immediately rather than after they have become bigger problems.
The patient goes to bed feeling better and wakes up feeling better.
The patient is also more likely to avoid sharp, acute, and seemingly innocent injuries.
I have heard of people that bent over to tie their shoes and then were unable to stand back up.
This is not something that usually just suddenly occurred.
It is most likely a condition that started some time ago and built to that point.
As a chiropractor, I would recommend not waiting for that point.
