    • 1). Clean out any dirt or leaves from the gutter. This will lighten the gutter and make it safer when being removed.

    • 2). Remove the downspouts. Use an electric drill to unscrew the anchor screws from the downspout straps. These are the straps that connect the downspout to the side of the house. If the straps are held in with nails, use a flat bar and hammer to remove them. Hammer the wedge end of the flat bar into the section where the nail is and pry it away from the house.

    • 3). Disconnect the elbow that holds the downspout to the gutter. This is removed in the same way as the downspout from the house.

    • 4). Position the ladder next to the first section of gutter that follows the elbow.

    • 5). Use the claw end of a hammer to remove the long metal nails holding up the gutter. The gutters will come down in sections; note where each piece of gutter begins and ends.

    • 6). Use the flat bar to pry the gutter off the roof of the house.
