Comparison of Vacuums for Pet Hair
- The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser® is an upright corded vacuum cleaner with a 12-amp suction that removes pet hair from carpet, bare floors and upholstery. One feature is a high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter built into the dirt container, which removes allergens from the air and carpet. The Pet Hair Eraser® vacuum has a pet contour tool and turbo brush, as well as a 14-inch hose. The vacuum is bag-less and uses a canister, which can sometimes result in messy dust and dirt removal.
- Not all pet hair vacuums are upright models. The Black and Decker Hand-Vac is a handheld vacuum similar to the classic Dust Buster. The pet hair power brush attaches to the brush tool on the vacuum. Using rubber bristles, the power brush picks up pet hair from carpeting and upholstery. The Hand-Vac is bag-less and battery-powered, which may run up your battery bill if you use it often. Although convenient and portable, the Hand-Vac does not feature a HEPA filter.
- Another handheld vacuum model, the Dirt Devil Purpose for Pets Hand-Vac is an electric vacuum that uses HEPA filtration to filter out allergens. The brush is a standard motorized brush roll that lifts pet hair from a multitude of surfaces. The vacuum includes a pet-hair upholstery brush for furniture and tight spaces. The Dirt Devil has a relatively low suction rate at 7-amps, and has a 20-foot cord that is less convenient than a cordless handheld model.
- The Dyson Animal features the famed Dyson Ball™ technology. The Animal features 220 air watts of suction power using Root Cyclone™ technology and a washable HEPA air filter to reduce allergens. The vacuum includes a stair-cleaning wand as well as a miniature turbine head, which is used to vacuum pet hair and dander from small, hard-to-reach spaces. The downside of purchasing a Dyson Animal is the hole it will leave in your wallet.
- The Eureka pet lover canister vacuum is another bag-less vacuum that removes pet hair from furniture and carpeting. The Pet Power Paw™ is a nozzle attachment that features plastic teeth that loosen the hair and rubber strips that "grab" it. Although the pet lover vacuum does not feature a HEPA filter, it does have a charcoal filter that reduces pet odor and traps allergens. The suction power is slightly less than the Bissell at 10.4 amps.
