It's winter and your boat is lying aimlessly in your backyard. That's when you need to spruce up your boat for long term winter storage.
Mentioned below is a list of tips for storing your boat this winter.

1. Fill up the tank with fresh fuel - In this way you can prevent condensation in the fuel tank. Once you fill up the tank with fuel, you need to use a fuel stabilizer by following the instructions mentioned on the fuel's container. Remember that there are different kinds of fuel stabilizers available in the market and hence you need to make sure that you're adding the fuel stabilizer in the right way. After you've added the fuel stabilizer, run the boat's motor for about 2 minutes so that the new fuel can enter its system.

2. Add fogging oil to the boat's carburetors - Most boats have a fitting where the fogging oil needs to be added. You need to read the boat's production guide for locating the fitting. In case you can't find it, then most people fill up the fogging oil by removing the carburetor cover. Once the fogging oil is added, you can expect the boat's motor to expel a lot of smoke which is completely normal.

3. Add fogging oil to the boat's cylinders as well - You also need to add fogging oil to the boat's cylinders by removing its spark plugs. Also, attach new spark plugs to the boat and clean up the boat's housing. Don't forget to use an anti-corrosion spray over all the electronic parts of the boat.

4. Clean up the steering cables - Clean up the steering cables thoroughly and use an anti-corrosion spray over them. This will help you get rid of corrosion problems that may arise when you start using your boat once again.

5. Drain out your boat's gear case - Simply unhook the flusher and drain out the gear case. Also, don't let water accumulate in the seal as moisture can damage the seal completely. Once the gear case has been flushed out, add fresh lubricant in to the gear case.

6. Remove your boat's battery - Remove the battery of your boat and store it in a cool and dry place. Clean up its terminals and then use the anti-corrosion spray over them as well. You need to charge the battery for a certain number of days every month to ensure that it works normally after this huge winter break.

7. Store the boat in its proper position - Store the boat by keeping its motor in the downward position and cover it using canvas sheets. It is advisable to use canvas sheets as plastic sheets can invite moisture and lead to corrosion of the boat's metal parts.

Follow these simple tips to keep your boat in good condition all through the winter and retrieve it in its best form.
