  • 1). Put on the kind of hiking socks you intend to wear on your trek.

  • 2). Lace on your new hiking boots.

  • 3). Walk across the room in them.

  • 4). Adjust the laces as necessary.

  • 5). Spend one hour wearing the boots - or until your feet begin to chafe.

  • 6). Take the boots off.

  • 7). Repeat at intervals until your boots are comfortable.
