    • 1). Examine the paper promissory note. Ensure that it is fully executed and notarized, if applicable.

    • 2). Scan the promissory the note. Depending on your hardware, you may be able to scan the entire document at once, or only one page at a time.

    • 3). Locate the file on your computer. It will have automatically saved to your scan folder. This is the folder where any scanned document appears. If you are unsure as to its location, consult the documentation for your scanner and/or software.

    • 4). Save the file in the directory of your choice. If you will be converting a number of notes to electronic versions, create a new directory and title it "Promissory Notes" or the equivalent of your choice.

    • 5). Convert the file to a PDF. Many scanners automatically generate PDF files, but if yours doesn't, it is better to convert the file because PDFs can be read on most PCs. A number of PDF converters vary in price, such as Primo PDF (free), Nitro PDF ($99.99) and Adobe Acrobat ($299.99). In addition, you can use online services such as PDF Converter, Adobe CreatePDF or PDF Online. This is inadvisable however, due to the confidential nature of a promissory note.
