    Plastic Wrap and Baggies

    • To keep your baked goods fresh, wrap Rice Krispies treats in plastic wrap, making sure to get all the air out. Store them wrapped individually and placed in a zipper baggie to prolong their freshness and keep them soft.

    Apple Slices

    • Place several slices of fresh apple in a plastic bag along with your freshly made Rice Krispies treats. The moisture in the apples will help to keep your treats soft and fresh tasting.

    White Bread

    • Much like using apple slices, white bread helps to keep cookies and other foods that tend to go stale fresh and moist. Place leftover Rice Krispies treats in a plastic baggie or a plastic container along with two slices of plain white bread. Keep the container sealed and the bread will keep the snacks moist and fresh tasting.

    Marshmallows

    • Add extra marshmallows to the mixture when you are making Rice Krispies treats to preserve their softness. When you melt the marshmallows, do so over very low heat and just barely melt them. The more you heat marshmallows, the firmer they harden when they cool. Store the finished product in a plastic container or a metal cookie tin that seals tightly to preserve freshness and keep them soft.

    Pack Loosely

    • As you make your recipe for Rice Krispies squares, pack them loosely into the pan to help them stay soft as they cool. The more tightly you pack them, the firmer the texture will be when they are finished.

    Butter

    • Use enough butter in your recipe. When you use too little butter, the resulting product is hard, crumbly and chewy. To keep Rice Krispies treats soft and palatable, use at least a whole stick of real butter so there is enough fat in them to provide the right texture.
