If you enjoy country music, if you like cowboy movies from the old west, are from the South, or just happen to be attached to that down-home style, a country living design theme allows you to decorate a taste-specific room that showcases your love of all things country. - Coiled rope on a wall makes a quirky country accent.rope 4 image by Lee O'Dell from Fotolia.com
Try painting a country-inspired mural on the walls. There are several ways to interpret this idea: You could paint cowboys herding cattle, a Texas flag, squaredancers in action, or a farmer plowing a field, to name just a few examples.
If painting is not an option, hang framed country-themed paintings or wanted posters from yesteryear, or have your favorite country music album or western movie poster enlarged and framed for the walls. Alternatively, display curios such as coiled rope, horseshoes, a branding iron, or a mix of cowboy hats and bonnets. - A wooden rocking chair works well in a country room.armless rocking chair image by Scott Williams from Fotolia.com
If you're planning to buy new furniture, look for pieces such as rocking chairs, benches and coffee tables made of wood. Also, look around for furnishings such as loveseats, sofas and armchairs that are upholstered in leather and suede.
If you're working with furniture you already have, modify it to fit the country living theme. Age a bookcase with sandpaper to make it look weathered and rough. Apply crackle paint to a desk, an entertainment center or some shelves. For loveseats, sofas and armchairs, either buy slipcovers or make accent pillows using fabrics with patterns that fit the design theme such as plaid or flowers. - Bring the outdoors into your country room with wildflowers.wildflowers image by Colette MacDonald from Fotolia.com
Tie the room together with country-style knick-knacks and accents.
Set a wagon-wheel in a corner. Replace the ceiling fan or light fixture with an antique chandelier. Add greenery with a potted cactus or mason jars full of wildflowers. Tie kerchiefs around lamp bases and onto chair backs. Shop at fabric stores for materials with cowboy boot prints or spurs-and-saddles patterns; use these to make curtains and rugs or a comforter for a bedroom. Alternatively, use material from cowboy clothes and gear: leather, denim, burlap, and chambray fabric, for instance.
