Plug the holes in the bottom of both flower pots with either cork or clay. This will keep the sand and water in place. - 2). Pour enough sand in the bottom of the large pot so that the smaller pot can rest inside of it, with the rims at approximately the same level. Ideally, the rim of the small pot will rest just slightly above the rim of the large pot.
- 3). Fill the large pot with sand up to its rim.
- 4). Pour water into the sand. Use enough water so the sand is saturated, but not flowing out over the sides of the large pot.

Place food inside the small pot. Cover the top with a damp cloth. As the water in the sand evaporates, it will draw heat from inside the small pot, keeping the temperature inside the small pot below the ambient temperature.
