Research shows that females are affected by the illness than males and can start to show signs of the illness between age 15 and 30 on average. Severe illnesses and injuries are also catalyst for depression at any age and gender and affects the male species as well, although not as commonplace as with females.

The great news is that for the most part depression is treatable with therapy and antidepressants. The importance of treatment cannot be underrated, because in all too many instances suicide begins to consume their daily thoughts as the only fix to stop all the inner pain and give the hopeless feelings a rest.

Depression is also linked to other disorders like bipolar, postpartum and seasonal affective and are forms of depression. Psychiatrists or psychologists can effectively treat these forms of depression and it is very important to seek help for yourself or someone else that is being seriously affected by these health issues.
