Definition: Confarreatio was an elaborate religious ceremony, with 10 witnesses, and both the flamen dialis (himself married confarreatio) and the pontifex maximus in attendance. Only the children of parents married by confarreatio were eligible.

The grain far was baked into a special wedding cake (farreum) for the occasion. The name confarreatio comes from the word for this grain.
