We Should Not Let Competing Priorities Get in the Way of Health

Our health - we so often take it for granted until it deserts us and without it we cannot accomplish or appreciate much in the other areas of our life.
And in the worst case scenario, we can no longer accomplish or appreciate anything at all.
It is a sad truth that we humans often spend most of our time doing what is least important to us; and spend the least amount of our time doing what is really most important to us.
When we are healthy, it is easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of life...
pursuing a career, raising a family, socializing and participating in all the activities that are expected of us.
Our health somehow gets pushed down the totem pole of priorities as family, finances, and career goals take priority.
It is strange that most people list good health as a top priority in their life yet have not made the time for a proper exercise program for days, weeks, months or even years.
Later on in life, when stricken with a dangerous and deadly disease, people often say "I would give every dollar I have if I could just get my health back.
" By contrast, no one ever says, "I would give up my health if I could just get a few more dollars.
" No one ever says that, but a lot of people live for the most part of their lives as though they believe it.
It is time for a moment of truth: are your life priorities what you thought they were? Does how you spend your time match up with what you have listed as these priorities? After going through this process many people realize that they are spending far too little time on one of their top priorities: their health.
Research tells us that we each spend three hours per day watching television.
It is hard to believe that anyone would make time in their day for television but not for workout time.
Yet proper exercise has been proven to be so beneficial to ones health, quality of life and so instrumental in helping decrease many disease risk factors that we cannot be healthy without it.
So ask yourself, "How important is my health to me, how do I want to live the rest of my life? Do I want to play golf and tennis in my retirement or do I want to risk spending it in hospital?" It cannot be left to chance as our modern lifestyles simply do not have enough physical activity in them for us to remain healthy and disease free.
It is only with vigorous movement that our body's cells are renewed and repaired.
This is the trigger needed to stimulate the hormones necessary to keep everything in good working order.
Adding as little as 2 sessions per week of moderately intense physical activity that includes strength training can help you avoid a host of serious ailments, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, depression and at least 20 other types of illnesses and conditions.
Think of your exercise program as medicine that can bring about positive changes to reduce the risk of life threatening diseases.
The impact of this medicine is both healing and preventive and it is the self-health care that rejuvenates the body and mind and rekindles the spirit adding years to life and life to years.
Since you care more about your health than anyone else, (you do don't you) doesn't it make sense that you should take control and be part of it? Don't live your life now so that doctors, drugs and hospitals are needed to fix you once things start to unravel.
There are a few spare parts available for your body but there is no amount of money in the world that will buy you another one, so you might as well take really good care of the one you have got!
