Schools for Flight Attendants
- Cypress College in Orange County, California offers both a basic and advanced flight attendant certificate program. The basic program is 15 hours and includes courses in customer care, airline operations, and passenger services and safety. In addition to the basic courses, the advanced certificate offers electives in public relations, travel management, travel sales and operations, first aid and aviation security. The advanced certificate also offers students an opportunity to complete an internship with an airline.
- Students at Liberty University have an opportunity to enroll in an aviation associate degree with a flight attendant concentration. The program combines general education requirements with core flight attendant courses. Eighty percent of the core flight attendant courses focus on emergency and safety-related issues, while the remaining 20 percent consists of hands on training. Courses include water survival, fighting fires, first aid, evacuation, on board duties and responsibilities and self defense. Liberty University is located in Lynchburg, Virginia.
- Mercer County Community College is located in West Windsor, New Jersey and offers an Associate of Applied Science in Aviation Customer Relations that prepares graduates to work as flight attendants. The program emphasizes communication within the aviation field, and students take courses in flight concepts, first aid and aerospace development. Graduates of the program have the option to directly transfer to a number of four-year colleges and universities and pursue a bachelor's degree. Transfer options are available at St. Francis College, Thomas Edison State College, Metropolitan State College and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
- Located in Tempe, Arizona, Rio Salado College offers a certificate of completion in airline operations with a focus in flight attending. Students in the program learn about the in-flight training procedures involved in a Boeing 737, Boeing 757 and Airbus 320. The certificate program requires students to complete 10 credits. Course topics also cover emergency medical procedures, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations and general aviation operations.
