Once an office complex housing several businesses and later an important stamp collectors emporium it was purchased by the Creative Foundation, the creation of Roger de Haan, to bring creativity into the lives of the Folkestone residents.
The Cube sites at the fork of the legally sounding Tontine Street, and brightens up a once dilapidated area the police thought of as Beirut.
On five floors the now restored building has been decorated in an artistic dark crimson to reflect the creativity the building is intended to purse.
It is also within a short step of the recently opened university campus providing courses for the creative and visual arts.
The Cube also provides part-time places of casual study for those with a creative bent who may have missed out on a formal art education due to age.
Not only are some of the courses provided by well known contemporary British professional artists such as the married Fenton duo who have recently exhibited their contemporary art in a well known Amsterdam art Gallery.
The Fenton's, though busy disseminating their artistic views amongst their grateful mature students, also find time to create outstanding cuisine in the Cube's small but friendly restaurant.
Having lived and raised a young family in Folkestone, Graham Fenton, welcomed back from his exhibition in Amsterdam, when asked of the exhibitions success, Graham could only speak of his excitement at the success of the Creative Quarter and the recent Triennial.
Ballet at the Cube is provided to children and young adults of all ages, instilling discipline, order and method and the desire to succeed.
One can only look forward to these youngsters bring joy into the community with their planned performances in the newly constructed theatre that can been seen from the Cube, inspiring these young artists of the performing art to higher achievements and follow in the creative footsteps of ballerinas such as the diva Darcy Bussel.
