Learn how to treat your feet with respect and cure those smelly sweaty feet.
If feet are left to get worse then infections can take hold as bacteria and fungus love warm, damp places to live.
Try using the herbal remedies below to ensure your feet remain dry and fresh everyday.
I recommend using a footbath with warm water to which you can add various oils and herbs as detailed below.
This needs to be done at least once a day but preferably up to three times daily.
Salt For extra-sweaty feet, try putting a small cup of salt in a quart of water and soaking your feet in the solution.
Don't rinse your feet; just dry them thoroughly, especially between the toes.
It's a bit like taking your feet for a dip in the sea each day.
Apple Cider Vinegar Apple cider vinegar helps tone and soften skin and is also great for killing fungal infections that can cause or contribute to smelly feet.
Use a 50/50 split with water.
Sage The herb Sage which is readily available all year round in dried or fresh form is a very effective footbath for sweaty smelly feet.
It's high in tannic acid, an astringent substance that causes the blood vessels in the skin to contract and reduce sweating.
Most smelly feet are caused when bacteria breaks sweat down into other substances.
Reducing sweat, therefore, can reduce the level of foot odor that is produced.
Sage is also antibacterial so it can also help to keep bacterial levels low on your feet.
Eucalyptus Oil This is a good disinfectant and has powerful bactericidal properties.
Thyme Oil Thyme Oil is a powerful anti-fungal agent which fights fungus infections and provides protection from staphylococcal (bacterial) infection and is just great in a footbath.
Peppermint Oil I love this essential oil - it has soothing anti-inflammatory properties, is really refreshing and leaves those toes tingling! Tea tree Oil This is a very effective herbal remedy.
Tea tree oil is a natural anti fungal oil, so it is extremely effective in treating athlete's foot which can cause or add to foot odor.
Tea tree oil also smells great - well I think so - use 20-25 drops of pure tea tree oil to each footbath.
Olive Leaf Extract This powerful extract is anti fungal and also helps to heal microbial infections.
Footbaths: Play some soft music, light some scented candles...
and relax...
a perfect mood for a perfect treatment.
Treat your feet to bathing 3x daily for 15 minutes in lukewarm water, using essential oils / salt or mild antibacterial soap then dry thoroughly and dust your feet with a good foot powder.
I have two favourite footbaths one a mixture of salt, tea tree and lavender oil.
This works well and is my standard footbath.
It smells great and has highly effective antibacterial and anti fungal properties.
My other favourite is Tea with Lavender and Peppermint Oil.
This was suggested by a friend at the gym and is great to use after a workout or run.
Boil up 5 tea bags and leave bags in pan to allow all the goodness to escape from the tea.
Add pan of bags and water to the footbath and top up with warm water, then add three or four of drops of the essential oils...
and soak.
It's really invigorating.
Remember this is valuable time; it's your time and is an essential part of your treatment so relax and enjoy.
You deserve it.
Try out these treatments for yourself and see which works best for you.
You should aim to use 2 or 3 different treatments to target all areas of concern with your feet.
So I hope you have as much joy with this as I do.
