NFL Cake Ideas
- This idea can fuel the friendly rivalry if you've got fans of both teams present to watch a football game. Decorate half of the cake in each team's colors and use icing to divide each half into sections. One way to do this is to create yard lines to define five rows on each half. When Team A scores a touchdown, cut a section off of Team B's side of the cake and feed it to Team A's fans, and see whose half lasts longer.
- A simple way to express your team spirit is to decorate the cake in team colors. You can mix food coloring with white cream cheese icing to create shades of icing for your team, or use candles in the team's colors to decorate the cake. You can also arrange colored candy or candy-coated chocolates on the surface of the icing in a team pattern or mosaic.
- If you have a little bit of artistic skill and a pastry bag, you can go beyond simply using team colors and actually replicate your team's logo, mascot or helmet. Find a picture of the image you want to use on your cake. Practice drawing on a piece of paper. Then, lay a base of white frosting, and gently squeeze the pastry bag to create colored outlines. Systematically fill them in with rows of icing.
- It is not hard to transform a round cake into a football-shaped cake. After baking and cooling a circular cake, turn it out of the pan. Use a bread knife to cut the middle third out of the cake with long, smooth cuts. Put the top and bottom thirds together to form a football shape and use frosting to cover the seam. You can cut the middle third into individual servings in advance or cut it in quarters lengthwise and use the four long cake pieces to make goal posts.
