Incurable Cat Diseases
- Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, also called Feline AIDS, is an autoimmune disease that is passed through the bodily fluid of cats, such as blood, saliva and milk. It can be passed from cat to cat, or from mother to kitten through the milk.
- Feline Infectious Peritonitis, also known as FIP, is a flu-like virus that quickly attacks the immune system of cats. It can be seen in dry form, seen with fever and paralysis, or wet form, seen with vomiting and diarrhea. Both forms are deadly.
- Polycystic Kidney Disease, also known as Feline PKD, is characterized by cystic growths appearing in the kidneys of a cat. It is particularly rampant in pure-bred exotic cats, such as Persians and Himalayans.
- Progressive Retinal Atrophy, also called PRA, is the shrinking of the retina in cats and can lead to irreparable blindness (see Resources).
- Feline Diabetes is an incurable disease characterized by the cat's inability to balance insulin production in the body (see Resources).
