If you have an upcoming baby shower and are not too sure about certain questions you may have then continue reading as hopefully the following will address your concerns.
Can you have the shower after the baby is born? Of course you can! Having the baby shower before the birth of the baby gives the mother items she needs before the baby comes. Having the shower afterwards gives everyone the chance to meet the baby and congratulate the parents. It depends on what the parents prefer.
Can you have more than one shower? This is a common thing as there might be one shower planned by family and another by friends. If you are compelled to throw a shower when she has already had one, then go right ahead. However, you shouldn't feel pressured to do it if she already got one. There's nothing wrong with havingthis event multiple times as it's a great thing to feel loved. Ensure however that the parties are different some how. For instance, you can have different themes.
If the expectant mother already has kids, is a shower still necessary?
One of the main reasons to have a baby shower is to give the expectant mother items that she will need for the baby such as a car seat, toys, diaper bag, etc. That's the reason it's tradition to only throw a shower for the first-born since the mother would have already accumulated these essential items after the first child. Tradition, however, can be broken. Baby showers offer some excitement to the prospect of having a baby. In addition, why should the love and support of family and friends be limited? Remember, the baby shower isn't only about the baby, it's about the mother and I'm sure she would love to be catered to.
Do you throw baby showers if the baby is being adopted?
Just because the mother isn't giving birth, that doesn't make the need for love, support and nurturing from friends and family just as if she was giving birth. Ensure though that you are extra careful not to make any insensitive references such as things related to pregnancy. Another key point here is that sometimes adoptions aren't successful so only have the shower after the adoption has been successfully completed.
Can men attend baby showers?
Since the baby shower is really for the expectant mother she should make the decision of whether or not men are invited. Some may feel uncomfortable with men being present while she may love for her spouse to be present for the event and would like for other couples to be there too.
Remember, baby showers should be an occasion to gather the expectant mother's support system and offer the necessary items she will need. A lot of the things considered to be tradition are allowed to be broken. As long as the expectant mother is comfortable, then all should be well.
