How to Grow Satsuma Tangerines in a Pot
- 1). Choose a container for your satsuma orange. It should be either the same size as the nursery pot in which it was purchased or one size larger.
- 2). Pour equal parts of potting soil and sphagnum peat moss into the pot so that the satsuma will sit at the same depth as it is currently growing. Place the roots on the soil and fill the pot to within 2 inches of the rim with the soil mixture.
- 3). Water the satsuma until the water drains from the bottom of the pot and keep the soil moist while the tree becomes established. Mature trees require watering only when the top 2 inches of soil is dry.
- 4). Keep the satsuma in a full-sun location. It requires at least eight hours of sun per day.
- 5). Fertilize the satsuma every four months with a slow-release fertilizer for container-grown citrus. Apply the fertilizer at the rate listed on the label.
