How to Set Up Your External DSL Modem
- 1). Turn your computer and monitor off. This will ensure that nothing gets damaged should there be an electrical problem.
- 2). Hook up the modem cable to the modem and then hook the other end of the modem cable to the Ethernet plug on the back of your computer. If you want to hook a phone line up to this modem, you'll need a phone splitter cord.
- 3). Plug in your modem power supply cable. Plug one end into the modem before you plug the other end into the wall. When you plug in the power supply, the modem should light up. There will be small round lights on the front of the modem. If it doesn't light up, try looking around for a power button on your modem and turn it on.
- 4). Plug one end of the other modem cable into your phone jack if you want to hook the phone up to the modem. Plug the other end into the modem itself. Ensure that this is securely plugged in, otherwise your phone will not operate properly.
- 5). Check and make sure the modem is on and that all cords are plugged into the right places. If your modem is not turning on, you may have one end of the modem cables in the wrong place. Wait a few moments for the modem to power up. If it does turn on, turn on the computer and make sure you have a working Internet and phone line.
