Ideas to Update Your Walls

Update your walls with color, decorative accents or sophisticated crown molding. Choose modern colors that work well with the current decor in your room. You can also update your decor if your furniture is outdated and if your budget allows. Look at the type of room before choosing colors. Some colors, such as beige, work well in all rooms while other soft or romantic colors go best in the bedroom. - Crown molding is best suited for modern homes that don't have vaulted ceilings. White molding adds shape and style to the room regardless of what color you decide to paint the walls. Always paint the walls before installing the molding to create a clean finished look. Decorating with oak or cherry crown molding is more difficult, but it can work if you choose the right paint colors. Cherry crown molding can work for light pastel purple or beige walls, and brown crown molding complements baby blue or other pastel colors.
- Burgundy, forest green and other dark colors work well on accent walls in the study, dining room or living room. Select a larger accent wall without windows, and paint the entire wall. Place a china cabinet on this wall or other framed art. This one wall is the focal point of the entire room. Accent walls allow you to use dark colors that would otherwise create an overwhelming feeling if you were to paint the entire room dark red or forest green.
- You can paint an entire room one color if you choose light or neural shades such as beige, pastel purple, yellow or baby blue. Light shades don't overwhelm the color appeal in the room. Leave the ceiling white, and paint with solid or textured paint, depending on your preferences. Textured pastel yellow paint or baby blue goes well in a kitchen. Pastel purple works well in some bedrooms, and beige typically goes well all throughout the house.
