You can gauge the popularity of your writing by the number of times your article has been syndicated or the number of times it has been viewed.
I you are able to walk talk and see the whole world before you then you have plenty of subjects to write about and sources to draw from.
Everywhere around you something is happening and newly discovered streams of information are revealed as to what you need to be writing about.
You can watch a mother scold her child for minutes then kapow, you now have a 500 word opinion of what you thought about her method and manner in which she dished out the discipline to her child or it could've been a man and woman interacting in some way of which you then formed an opinion about.
Don't forget about the fact of writing about something dear and meaningful to you, some tree hugging subject of great importance to you in which the thoughts come freely to you.
How about that writer who broaches precariously controversial subjects as if they were not meaningful what so ever but yet protected by the constitution, freedom of expression but that really won't prevent tasteless tirades.

There is no steadfast rule that disallows using your imagination and drawing on it to fill the many gaps you may encounter from time to time.

Many times I have been asked as to where would one begin and the answer has never deviated because the answer is at the beginning of course.
I really know what they are asking though and it is all about the writer and themselves as to just who and what they are.

You need to be reading the vast number of articles, blogs or even graffiti upon the wall for the inspiration of what to write next.
When I find myself in a dander because I just cannot draw a line or two of text from within myself I will play a little word game in my mind generating a random (this is what is known as a random seed generator - not really, just kidding) thought building upon it another word or formulating a phrase until an idea drops out and I begin to write.
Given all else when it is just completely elusive I will do nothing more than go howl at the moon and chase cars down the street.
No really, a good long nap will do where I can get outside the need to write until I am refreshed and whole again.
I know when it is there and I know when it is not there so I don't press the issue I just wait for the natural moment to occur which shall not be long for I am a writer after all.
