For anyone wanting to experience some of the best English countryside and one of the most easily recognisable stretches of coastline, then maybe it's time to visit the beautiful county of Sussex in the South east of England.
East Sussex in particular has a wealth of local attractions and some of the most breathtaking scenery in this region of the United Kingdom.
The East Sussex coastline, with its famous iconic chalk cliffs which stretch all the way into the neighbouring county of Kent, offers visitors a great opportunity to explore this wonderful coastline and everything it has to offer.
This area of East Sussex, in particular the historical town of Hastings, is right in the centre of "1066 Country", as it is locally known.
As anyone who is up on their English history will know, this is where William the Conqueror arrived from France and defeated the then King Harold of England at the Battle of Hastings in the year 1066, which saw William then take the English throne himself.
Both West and East Sussex have a deep and rich historical past, many influences of which can still be seen today, in and around the area.
Some of the most notable examples of these are the fortifications and castles which resulted from its strategic military position and war-torn past.
East Sussex has one of the largest concentrations of castles in the south of England; many of these have either been carefully restored or remain well-kept and used by the English Heritage charity.
For anyone, all people young or old, these fantastic historical buildings not only represent a reminder of England's historical past, but also allow visitors a chance to experience the way people lived in the medieval and middle ages.
One such castle that stands out in east Sussex is Bodiam Castle, near Robertsbridge.
It is the epitome of what you would expect from a 14th-century 'moated English castle' from this era.
It was originally built in 1385 by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge, who was a former knight of Edward III.
Today, it is the perfect place if you want a great day out with your family, with a combined history lesson along the way.
Bodiam Castle is run by the English charity the National Trust.
The castle runs many events and activities for visitors of all ages, from their grand medieval weekends to dressing up as a knight, a lord, a court jester or a princess for children.
Throughout the year there are a whole host of events ranging from battle re-enactments to falconry displays and from historical exhibitions to local country craft fairs.
So, you can have fun and learn a little about history along the way.
