To ensure that your dog leads an active and healthy life, it is necessary to feed the dog a proper diet full of nutrients that help promote its overall health. It is also important that your dog receives essential daily vitamin supplements to go along with the appropriate diet. These vitamins help to maintain a dog's healthy coat and fights against sickness by improving the dog's immune system. - One of the most important vitamins that a dog needs on a daily basis is vitamin E. This specific vitamin is a potent antioxidant that helps to reduce fat oxidation and reduces platelet functions as well. When your dog's coat starts thinning and becomes duller in color, Vitamin E should be given to the dog to help produce a thicker and more healthy-looking coat. Dogs under two years of age should receive 400 IU of this vitamin every day and dogs older than two years should be given 800 IU daily.
- To improve your dog's overall immune system, Vitamin C should be used. This essential vitamin for dogs will help fend off viral infections. The correct dose of Vitamin C for dogs, given twice daily, is between 250 mg to 500 mg.
- To prevent a wide assortment of cancers from cutting down your dog's lifespan, it is important to give your dog between 10,000 and 25,000 IU of beta-cerotene daily. The correct amount of dosage depends on how large your dog actually is. The larger the dog, the more beta-cerotene should be given. A large amount of beta-cerotene is contained in just one carrot, so if you prefer, give your dog at least one carrot per day, in its food, and the proper daily dosage will be met.
- Sometimes a dog's overall appetite will decrease due to illness or turmoil that the dog is going through. In this instance, vitamin B-12 will increase the dog's appetite over a short period of time if the dog receives between one to two CCs per day as treatment begins. After a few days, increasing the vitamin B-12 intake up to four to five CCs is recommended to return the dog's appetite to normal.
