Can Andy Murray Break 75 Years of Tradition?

With Wimbledon 2011 fast approaching, we try to answer the question - can Andy Murray become the first Brit to win the men's singles since Fred Perry in 1936? The short answer is 'yes', while the slightly longer answer '...
but probably not'.
One thing's for sure though, a lot will depend on how he gets on in the forthcoming French Open.
He goes in as one of three hot favourites - something that was almost inconceivable just a few months ago.
Following his straight-sets defeat at the hands of Novak Djokovic in this year's Australian Open, Murray endured an awful run of results.
Soon afterwards, he crashed out at the Rotterdam ATP 500 tournament, before tumbling out at the second round in Indian Wells and going down in straight sets to qualifier, Alex Bogomolov, in Miami.
Things weren't looking great.
His form picked up on clay, where a semi-final defeat to Rafa Nadal at the Monte-Carlo Masters suggested things were on the up.
A disappointing Barcelona Open was only a small setback, while a hotly contested semi-final defeat in Rome against Djokovic seems to have given the Scot something of a boost.
During an interview in the last couple of days, Murray suggested there was never a crisis and that it was simply a case of having to snap out of the mental state that had compromised his recent form.
Having seemingly done this, his thoughts have shifted to Paris - a slam he feels he can win.
His most recent efforts suggest he's in with a shot, even if the bookies only give him 16/1.
And so to the Wimbledon tour.
Like we said, his success at the French will play its part, after which it's all about the other big boys.
Roger Federer will always be there or thereabouts, while Nadal, Djokovic and Sweden's Robin Soderling will all be banging hard on the door as well.
It'll be one of these five - we all know that! Shifting perspectives slightly, why not get into the swing of things by treating yourself or a loved one to some tennis gifts? Hop online and you'll find a fantastic Wimbledon tour experience, available for families, couples or kids.
There's also the chance to star in your own Daily Mirror front page where, low and behold, you're the Wimbledon champ! And last but not least, you'll find the brilliant personalised Wimbledon Tennis Book which uses reprints of original newspaper reports to tell the stories of the tournament since 1913.
