25 Days of Christmas 2010 - Day 1
Add a little holiday cheer to your day with the 25 Days of Christmas. Each day will feature a Bible verse, a special holiday Carol, the holiday TV schedule for the day, a musical gift idea, a movie of the day, a recipe to try, and something extra as well.
December 1st, the countdown to Christmas begins. This year, give someone the gift of music and/or the gift of education this Christmas.
Merry Christmas!
Bible Verse of the Day
- Ephesians 5:1 (New King James Version)
Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.
If we are to be imitators of God then we need to remember to keep our heads and our hearts this Christmas season. Can you imagine our Lord running around Heaven like a chicken with its head cut off simply because he looked at the calendar and saw that the countdown is on? Do you believe that he would ever get into an argument with someone over the last item on sale at the store? Can you picture God looking over a list of friends/family and saying "Oh no, I'm not inviting so-and-so to the Christmas party this year because she forgot to send a card to me on my birthday!"
Keeping Christ in Christmas is more than just remembering to say "Merry Christmas" instead of the generic "Happy Holidays." Keeping Christ in Christmas means being an example of His love and His grace, even when we really want that last blue sweater that's on sale for 25% off and someone else puts their hands on it first.

Family Movie of the Day
- A Charlie Brown Christmas(Compare Prices)
Charlie Brown isn't caught up in the madness of Christmas and all of the commercial trimmings that are infecting those around him. In this classic, he fights to keep the real meaning of the Christmas in his heart, always remembering the "reason for the season."
Did You Know ...
... That DecembeRadio's lead guitarist Brian Bunn's favorite Christmas song is "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer," his favorite Christmas album is Winter Wonderland by Point of Grace and his favorite Christmas movie is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation? On the subject of Christmas gifts, he says that the best gift he has received was his first acoustic guitar. The best gift he has given? An engagement ring! His favorite Christmas tradition is opening one present on Christmas Eve.Christmas Gift Idea
- A gift for someone who has everything...
We all know that one person who seems to have everything. Shopping for them seems to be an exercise in futility and leaves us scratching our heads in confusion. For those folks in my own life, a gift to a charity in their name is always a sure-fire gift. Our Guide to Nonprofit Charitable Orgs, Joanne Fritz, shared a charity some time ago that really struck a chord with me so this year, AfricAid is my charity of choice. Giving the gift of education to girls will be a wonderful Christmas gift!
Recipe of the Day
- December 1st kicks off the 25 Days of Christmas and since it's Wednesday, instead of serving a full meal at church, everyone is bringing their favorite appetizers. Normally, my girls won't touch a chickpea with a ten-foot pole, but I've found that tossing a can in the food processor with some sun-dried tomatoes and serving it with pita chips is a way to make them come running.
Sun Dried Tomato Hummus - It only takes 10 minutes to make this tasty dish.
Saying Merry Christmas ...
- In Basque: Zorionak eta Urte Berri On!
